Discussion

This spit was excavated to define the edges of the north-south aligned ditches 012AD07218, 012AD08016, 012AD08331 and 012AD08467. In the event, it also defined east-west aligned ditch 012AD08014, which proved to be the latest event in the immediate area, and a pit, 012AD08507.. The material removed was generally a medium sandy loam (Munsell 10YR 4/3), although patches of lighter (10YR 4/4) areas were also noted. Most of the pottery found was later Romano-British in date.
